Name That Villain – Play Along

So, you were too busy to attend the Name That Villain program? Hmph! Couldn’t or just plain didn’t attend the RG (at least on Sunday)? Double-hmph!

But we won’t hold that against you. If you want to see just what you missed in this program, play the Name That Villain presentation.

The PowerPoint presentation is self-explanatory. The audio imbedded in the 3rd slide lasts about 45 minutes total. The answer key will be posted separately.

Errata/Replacement Program: Fear Foods

Artificial dyes, BPA, arsenic, high-fructose corn syrup, caffeine, and more: is your food killing you? Or is it just the fear driven media? Your friendly FDA chemist discusses the science behind these topics and more.

We regret to inform our attendees that Hans Fex (scheduled to present on the Mini-Museum on Saturday afternoon) has had to cancel due to other pressing matters. Hopefully he will be able to speak at a future MWM event.

However, fear not. On short notice, MWM member (and RG Volunteer Coordinator) Karen Hatwell has agreed to step in with the fascinating program described above.

What Are You Bringing to the Chocolate Orgy?

As you know by now, Friday night’s chocolate orgy will have both store-bought items and homemade goodies. So, what’s in yours? Got a photo to tempt us over the next few days?

Jared will be bringing his mom’s chocolate mousse, this time featuring Bailey’s mint chocolate (instead of his usual Grand Marnier or Bacardi’s rum). Scroll down to see the ingredients, process of making the mousse, and the finished product.

What, you want to register now? Do so fast, because we will stop online registrations on Wed. May 14 (to allow us time for transactions to come through and print the pre-registered badges). And the early ordering of the Saturday night buffet will end later today (in time for us to let the hotel know how many people to cook for). While you can easily register as a walk-in for the RG, there’s no guarantee that there will be additional dinner buffet tickets by the time you arrive.

We look forward to seeing you this weekend!

Happy Mother’s Day!

Well, the post isn’t about Mother’s Day, but the sentiment is genuine nonetheless.

As we’re thinking about the Saturday dinner buffet still, we thought we’d bring you an audio “montage” of clips dealing with food. 12 movies plus one commercial. Can you ID what’s what in here? The only villainous thing is having the answer on the tip of your tongue and not quite being able to get it in time.

Food quotes

Remember, you need to be registered for the RG, too, to purchase the buffet.

Native Shrubs and Trees

The yard of a typical Northern Virginia home is landscaped with plants from Asia. Our open spaces are populated with “non-native invasives.” Our garden centers advertise “pest-free” cultivars. We’ve become disconnected from our native Virginia plants. How has this affected our birds and pollinators? How has it affected the aesthetics of our communities? This talk introduces the beauty and environmental benefits of trees and shrubs native to Loudoun County.
